Buildathon 2026

Code of Conduct

Be respectful. Build with integrity. Help each other. If someone asks you to stop, stop.

Buildathon 2026 is a 24-hour product sprint held on Sunday 7 June 2026, organised by the Shared Futures Foundation. Every participant, mentor, judge, sponsor representative, volunteer, and organiser is required to follow this Code of Conduct. Organisers will enforce it throughout the event.

We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and harassment-free experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or technical experience level.

Expected Behaviour

  • //Treat all participants with respect and consideration.
  • //Communicate openly and thoughtfully. Disagreements about technical approaches are welcome. Personal attacks are not.
  • //Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants. Alert an organiser if you notice someone in distress or a violation of this Code of Conduct.
  • //Respect the venue. Clean up after yourself. Do not tamper with equipment that is not yours.
  • //Respect shared prayer and quiet spaces. Keep voices low in designated focus zones.
  • //Credit collaborators. If someone helps you, acknowledge it. If you use open-source code, attribute it.
  • //Follow the build rules. All project work must be done during the 24-hour build window. Pre-built projects or code written before the event cannot be submitted. Open-source libraries and frameworks are permitted.

Unacceptable Behaviour

  • //Harassment in any form: verbal, physical, or visual. This includes offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, or appearance.
  • //Intimidation, stalking, following, or unwanted photography or recording.
  • //Sustained disruption of talks, demos, or other events.
  • //Unwelcome sexual attention or advances.
  • //Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviour.
  • //Submitting work that was not built during the event.
  • //Interfering with another team's work, infrastructure, or data.
  • //Accessing or attempting to access systems, networks, or data beyond what is provided for the event.

Consequences

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behaviour is expected to stop immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behaviour, organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • //A verbal warning.
  • //Removal from the event without eligibility for prizes or grants.
  • //A ban from future Shared Futures Foundation events.
  • //Reporting to relevant authorities if the behaviour constitutes a legal offence.

Reporting

If you experience or witness unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, contact an organiser immediately.

  • //Speak to any organiser or volunteer in person. They will be wearing identifiable lanyards.
  • //Email buildathon@sharedfuturesfoundation.org.uk (monitored throughout the event).
  • //Message the #organisers channel on the event Discord server or flag in the community WhatsApp group.

All reports will be handled with discretion. You will not be asked to confront the person involved. We will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure your safety and comfort.

Build Rules

  • //All code and design work must be created during the event build window on Sunday 7 June 2026 (build starts 09:30, build freeze at 19:00).
  • //You may use open-source libraries, frameworks, APIs, and starter templates.
  • //Pre-existing code, designs, or products cannot be submitted. If you have prior work in the same space, you must start fresh.
  • //Use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, Replit Agent) is permitted and encouraged. No restrictions.
  • //All submissions must integrate Ummah.com as the payment layer.
  • //Teams must demo a working product. Slide-only presentations are permitted but score lower in judging.
  • //The judging panel's decisions are final.

Intellectual Property

  • //You own what you build. The Shared Futures Foundation does not claim any ownership or equity in projects created at the Buildathon.
  • //Winning teams that enter the post-event incubation programme retain full ownership. The Foundation provides support and introductions. It does not take equity.
  • //By participating, you grant the Shared Futures Foundation permission to photograph, record, and share images and video from the event for promotional purposes.

Photography and Recording

  • //An official photographer will be present throughout the event.
  • //Photos and video may be used on the Foundation's website, social media, and promotional materials.
  • //If you do not wish to be photographed, inform an organiser at registration and we will accommodate you.
  • //Do not photograph or record other participants without their consent.

Health and Safety

  • //If you feel unwell, inform an organiser. A first aid kit is available on site.
  • //Emergency exits and assembly points will be communicated at the opening briefing.
  • //The event runs a full day from 08:00 to 22:30 on Sunday. Take breaks, hydrate, and use the provided prayer and quiet spaces as needed.
  • //If you need to leave the event for any reason, you may do so at any time. Inform an organiser so we know you are safe.
